 Club News

SOUTHWICK PARK OPEN DAY
The club has been invited to set up a demonstration amateur radio station at the Southwick Park (ex- HMS Dryad) Open Day on Saturday September 27th 2008. The special callsign GB2SP will be used on HF/VHF. The event will be advertised locally and will be open to the public from 11:00-18:00.

CONSTRUCTORS AWARD (NOW CLOSED)
This year’s constructors award competition will soon be here. The closing date for completed entries with appropriate form filled in must be returned to Julia by 31st August. Full details on each category award are laid out on the reverse of the application form which is available from Julia.

If you haven’t already thought about building a project and want to enter the competition for this year then please do it now as time will run out… If you want any advice then please ask.

The first meeting in September (club natter night) has been dedicated to the judging of all entries for each category. Please bring your finished projects in together with all the relevant design & paperwork so that the judges can mark projects accordingly. All projects are to be taken away by their owners at the end of the evening.

The winners from each category will be announced at the AGM in October.

Special Event Station GB5ØRMM
Horndean and District Amateur Radio Club were pleased to have been invited to the Royal Marines Museum, Eastney, Portsmouth, to participate in the museum celebrations during 2008.

It was the original intention to operate only for the "Museums on the Air" weekend in June, however, it became apparent that it was the 50th anniversary of the inception of the museum. A decision was therefore made to approach the museum and ask if it would be possible to operate for a full 28 days of an N.O.V. They agreed, and with a letter of support from the Museum Director, Mr. Chris Newbery, an application for the call GB50RMM was made to OFCOM.

GB50RMM will be on the air from 19th May until 15th June 2008, on HF (SSB and CW) and FM Voice Satellite when operators availability allow.

Based in the lavishly decorated former Officers’ Mess of Eastney Barracks, built in the 1860s for the Royal Marine Artillery, the Museum is situated in the very heart of Royal Marines history. From their origins in 1664 through to their roles in arenas ranging from Trafalgar though to China, the Falklands and the Gulf, every aspect of their past can be seen. With a wealth of fine exhibits and hands-on displays, there is something for the whole family at the Museum.

For more information regarding the Museum; see http://www.royalmarinesmuseum.co.uk

Hello From Brian MW0GKX
For those of you who remember one of our previous members, Brian Perrett M3BAU, he is now living in Cardiff, Wales. Not only has he added a 'W' into his callsign but a '0' too, progressing to MW0GKX. Brian is a member of the Highfields Amateur Radio Club and has said if any HDARC members are in the area on a Friday night they are welcome to pop in for a cuppa and a chat. A link to the Highfields Amateur Radio Club can be found on our 'Links' page.

Website Addition
Hopefully you will have noticed an extra button on the left frame. Just press the 'JOURNALS' button and this will take you to our new journals page. From here you can view or download the club journal. You will need Adobe Reader to view these files. I hope to include archived journals at a later date. Peter G8PIQ has been busy converting the journals to PDF format. When they are ready they will be added. Now you will be able to view your club journal online and will not miss any of your favorite articles, even if you have lost your hard copy.

Club Awards Reminder
A reminder about the club awards. Outline rules are given on the back page of each issue of the journal. Full rules available from Dick G0RPX or G0FYX.
